Place of birth/Geboorteplaats: Brikama, Gambia.

Family/Familie: I live in a single-parent family, I live with my mother and 2 younger sisters and 2 younger brothers. Also I have 2 elder sisters and they are both married./ Ik woon samen met mijn moeder, 2 jongere zussen en 2 jongere broertjes. Twee oudere zussen zijn getrouwd.

Home address/Woonplaats: I am currently living in Corsicana, Texas, U.S.A. to pursue my studies through the help of the AlFra Foundation./Ik woon momenteel in Corsicana, Texas in de Verenigde Staten van Amerika i.v.m. mijn medische studie met behulp van de AlFra Foundation.

My education/Mijn opleiding: I was enrolled in school in 1998 in Brikama Lower Basic School and finished in 2004. Then I proceeded to Brikama Upper Basic School where I was selected as the head-boy (controlling the movements in-between students and the staff in the school) in July 2006.

It was a great experiance for me as a leader. Then I completed Brikama Upper Basic School in May 2007 and went to pursue further studies in the Gambia Senior Secondary School from 2007 to 2010. In September 2010 I was admitted to the University of The Gambia, where I was studying medicine. As a career I had the desire to become a medical doctor in future./

Van 1998 tot 2004 zat ik op de Brikama Lower Basic School, waarna ik naar de Brikama Upper Basic School ging tot 2007. In 2006 werd ik als klasse-oudste gekozen, waarbij ik een soort intermediair was tussen de leerlingen en de docenten. Dit was een prima ervaring om mijn leiderschapskwaliteiten te ontwikkelen. Van 2007 tot 2010 bezocht ik de Gambia Brikama Senior Secondary School. In september 2010 werd ik toegelaten tot de Universiteit van Gambia, waar ik medicijnen ging studeren. Mijn wens was om arts te worden.

Current education/Huidige studie:: After one year of experience at the University of The Gambia, I moved on to Navarro College , Corsicana, Texas, U.S.A. It was my dream to become a medical doctor, however since the latter part of 2011 I am suffering from a severe eye problem, which makes it impossible for me to take on a very long study period. Unfortunately I had to decide to change my goal of becoming a medical doctor into pursuing a study in the nursing field, which still will allow me to become a healthworker in my home country, which always has been my strong desire. This will be 2,5 years of study at Navarro College. Currently I am on the pre-nursing program.

Na een jaar aan de Universiteit van Gambia te hebben gestudeerd, vervolg ik nu mijn studies op het Navarro College , Corsicana, Texas, Amerika. Het is altijd mijn droom geweest om arts in een ziekenhuis te worden, echter sinds de laatste maanden van 2011 kreeg ik steeds meer problemen met mijn ogen, waardoor een langjarige studie onmogelijk bleek. Helaas moest ik toen besluiten om mijn doel om arts te worden los te laten en heb ik nu gekozen voor een studie verpleegkunde. Hierdoor kan ik mijn wens om werkzaam te zijn in de gezondheidzorg in mijn land nog steeds realiseren. Deze studie zal 2,5 jaar in beslag nemen. Momenteel volg ik in het pre-nursing programma.

My/Mijn hobbies: I like football but not much for  now and I love reading novels (which are based on true stories), socialising on the internet. The social networks I like the most are Facebook.com, Tagged.com and My Space.com I also like debates which are based on religion and politics./Ik houd van voetbal, maar speel het zelf niet meer. Ook lees ik graag romans en over werkelijk gebeurde verhalen. Facebook.com, Tagged.com en My Space.com zijn mijn favoriete sociale netwerken, die ik regelmatig bezoek. Voorts discussieer ik graag over geloof en politiek.

Your goals in life and why the AlFra Foundation is important to you in order to achieve those goals/Wat zijn je levensdoelen en welke rol speelt de AlFra Foundation in het realiseren van die doelen: Sure! I would like to be a health worker. As a health worker it means you are serving humanity. I would love to achieve all my  degrees in the health education sector as far as my studies are concerned. The AlFra Foundation is important to me because they approved to sponsor me for the first two years of my study at a very crucial time of my study career and it has always been my dream to have someone/foundation around me to support my education which will make my learning effective. My family background is not financially strong, which would not allow me to pursue further studies, so as the AlFra Foundation is sponsoring me, this will help me to gather the knowledge at Navarro College and the World at large./Mijn doel in het leven is om in de gezondheidszorg te werken. Als gezondheidsmedewerker dien je de mensheid. Mijn diepste wens is al de graden van mijn studie te behalen. De AlFra Foundation is erg belangrijk voor me, omdat zij in een voor mij financieel moeilijke periode mijn steunaanvraag hebben goedgekeurd en de eerste twee jaar van mijn studie hebben betaald. Het was altijd mijn droom om iemand of een stichting te vinden, die bereid zou zijn mijn studie te financieren. Mijn familie is niet in staat om mijn studie te betalen. Doordat de AlFra Foundation mij sponsort ben ik in staat aan het Navarro College te studeren.

It has been my dream to study in the U.SA. and this is like a dream comes true. In addition, thank you for looking after my health and education. I shall never let you down./ Ik wil graag de AlFra Foundation bedanken voor het bieden van deze mogelijkheid om in Amerika te studeren. Het is een geweldige kans voor mij. Het was mijn droom om in Amerika te gaan studeren en deze droom is nu werkelijkheid geworden. Bovendien wil ik de stichting bedanken voor alle hulp t.b.v. mijn studie en gezondheid. Ik zal u nooit teleurstellen.
